CASTLE ROCK — The Castle Rock Rockets are headed back to the state tournament for the first time since 2017, and they punched their ticket to ride in dramatic fashion in front of swelling home crowd with a 5-3 comeback victory over Tenino in the 1A District IV Tournament, Friday.
The Rockets found themselves tied 1-1 after two innings, but trailed by two runs by the bottom of the fourth. Castle Rock got a run back in the sixth, but was still facing a 3-2 hole entering the seventh inning before plating three runs in the top of the frame in order to turn the tables for good
Castle Rock head coach Joe Bair blamed the slow start on a fit of nerves for a team playing in a game with such high stakes.
“We were puckered up the first few innings yesterday,” Bair said. “That was the biggest crowd at a Castle Rock home baseball game I’ve seen since (Mark Morris assistant principal) Aaron Whitright was pitching for the Rockets.”
