Wahkiakum survived the opening round in the 1B State Baseball Tournament on Wednesday, but it didn’t do it easy way. Come to think of it, that makes a lot of sense for a bus load of Mules.
The Cathlamet Nine came on on top 10-9 in a game that took eight innings and saw seven lead changes. After allowing the Rangers to tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh inning, Wahkiakum plated four runs in the top of the eighth and looked set to coast to victory. However, the Mules had get tough in the bottom half, notching the final two outs with the bases loaded and three runs already home for Quilcene.
“It was a wild one,” Wahkiakum head coach Matt Mogush said.
