A week off from action didn’t hurt Naselle in the slightest as the Comets continued to have short arms and deep pockets in a 70-0 win over Moses Lake/Covenant Christian in the second round of the 1B State Football Tournament, Saturday, at South Bend High School.

It was the seventh shutout of the season for Naselle, and the sixth time the Comets have scored at least 70 points. They scored at least 64 points three other times, and defeated Taholah 35-0 in less than a quarter of action before the Chitwhins forfeited.

So how did the Comets enjoy playing four quarters of football after nearly two weeks off from competition due to a bye in the first round of the playoffs? They liked it. A lot. Mostly because it’s better than studying and putting more practice reps against the same old faces.

“I think the biggest thing for us was, quite honestly, we had an optional film study last Sunday and we were able to break the film down,” Naselle coach Kevin McNulty said. “I thought our kids had them pretty well pegged for their tendencies so we were able to play pretty fast on defense.”
