High School Girls Soccer

CENTRALIA – It looks like nearly everything except expectations have changed for the R.A. Long girls soccer team this season. All those seniors who put the Lumberjills on the map with a series of runs in the state tournament, and the coaching staff that oversaw the operation – gone.

But just because most of the faces are new, and even though the familiar ones are playing in different places, doesn’t mean the goal posts have moved for the Jills.

This team wants to win. And it appears they won’t mind throwing a couple elbows to do so.

On Thursday the Lumberjills came from behind to pick up a 2-1 victory over Centralia in a non-league matchup between 2A District IV foes. That effort, which included a pair of goals from sophomore Josie Sully, gave new head coach Angel Orozco his first win in his first try.

“It felt like a playoff. It wasn’t a friendly game or anything like that,” Orozco said. “It was physical, and it was a good game overall for both sides… With all the new faces we have – which, we’re pretty much restarting – it was fun to watch.”
