The calendar dates of February 11th and 12th from the year 2020 might not be in the forefront of most basketball enthusiasts’ minds at the moment, but they are indeed quite meaningful. Those dates signify the last time Mark Morris suffered consecutive 2A Greater St. Helens League defeats.
But the Monarchs were staring down the barrel of that potential result on Thursday night inside the recently renamed Bill Bakamus Gymnasium against a high powered and previously unbeaten Columbia River squad.
The key word being previously.
The “law firm” of Stevens and Stephens combined to score 40 points to help the Monarchs get back into the win column and gift the Rapids their first loss of the season 67-52 just before the Christmas break. Which was no easy task. As recently as Tuesday those Rapids managed to get their punches in while dispatching R.A. Long on the road, so it was clear they were a dangerous foe.
