BAKAMUS GYMNASIUM – Ken Kelly rolls into the building that encapsulates Mark Morris High School at 6:30 a.m. most day. It’s early enough that the sun is often deep behind the horizon.
But it’s late enough that Drew Ibarreta has already gotten 200 shots up by the time the door closes.
So when Ibarreta hit a 3-pointer early in the third quarter, suddenly halting a potentially game-changing run by W.F. West, Kelly wasn’t surprised. And sparked by the senior point guard, Mark Morris pulled away to a 65-51 win, Saturday, in order to advance to the semifinal round of the 2A District IV boys basketball tournament at Ted M. Natt Court.
“We trust in the work that we put in all season and all offseason,” Ibarreta said. “We trust in that and keep battling, keep battling. We’ve been through a lot of battles together.”
