2A Prep Boys Basketball: Mark Morris plays around, finds out in State loss to Lynden

Before the Monarchs got on the bus to travel to the hinterlands for a 2A State Tournament against No. 1 ranked Lynden they took stock of everyone’s expectations. And if anyone in a baby blue polo shirt considered their task to upset the Lions to be impossible, they were politely asked to stay home.
As it turned out, the Mark Morris boys basketball team is made up of true believers, but they were not rewarded for their faith. At least not right away. Instead, MM fell 70-50 to Lynden at Mount Vernon High School, in a game that revealed more about those fearsome Lions than it did about the Mighty Monarchs.
“It seems the demise of the Lynden Lions may be just a tad overstated,” first-year Mark Morris head coach Ken Kelly said on the long bus ride home. “Obviously they’re a well-coached team. I’ve known Coach Roper for many years now and marvel at the way he gets them ready to play.”
