YAKIMA – From the file of strange but true, the Monarchs scored just two points in the first quarter in their 2A boys basketball State quarterfinal contest against R.A. Long, but they also had the final shot with a chance to win, Thursday, at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Mark Morris couldn’t buy a bucket in that opening frame and then found the hoop closed for business once again on their final attempt of the evening. That turn of events gave R.A. Long a historic win, by a score of 50-48, and catapulted the Lumberjacks into the semifinal round of the State Tournament for the second time in four years.
