The R.A. Long Lumberjacks celebrate on the pitch following a 2-1 win over Columbia River, Tuesday, March 11, at Longview Memorial Stadium. It’s unknown when the Lumberjacks may have previously defeated the Rapids, but educated guesses say it’s been at leas 25 years, if it’s ever happened at all. / Photos courtesy of Benjamin Hendrickson

If a high school soccer fan had asked around town on Tuesday afternoon when the last time the R.A. Long boys soccer team had defeated Columbia River it’s likely that the only response they’d have received is a series of quizzical looks. Ask that question now, though, and the answer will come quick and correct – Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

(Editor’s Note: Sources say the Lumberjacks defeated Columbia River multiple times during the tenure of John Bates as head coach at R.A. Long. However, specific dates are still elusive. Bates’ final season with the Jacks was 2012.)
