RIDGEFIELD—Most of the Woodland girls basketball team was in elementary school the last time the Beavers made it to the state tournament. The others were in still in daycare.
But that pesky 11-year streak ended Wednesday after Woodland defeated Mark Morris 50-45 to punch its ticket to state for the first time since 2014.
The win means the Beavers are one of three 2A GSHL teams that will advance to at least the Regional round of the state tournament, along with Columbia River and Ridgefield.
“It means a lot,” Woodland senior Addi Stading said. “I haven’t gone yet my whole four years so it’s pretty exciting.”

And if four years is a long time to a high school athlete, then 11 years is essentially forever.
Meanwhile, Mark Morris has won two State titles in that timespan. And the Monarchs have made a habit out of reaching the State round of 16 in recent years. That goal was no different this season.
