SELAH – Don’t mind the Monarchs if they didn’t celebrate the way you thought they might after earning their spot in the 2A State Tournament. It’s just that Mark Morris didn’t come to Carlon Park for a date to the semifinals – it’s the whole kit kaboodle they’ve got their eyes locked on.

Mark Morris registered a pair of wins on the opening day of the state tournament, sinking Evergreen 10-0 in the morning and then holding the line in a 4-2 win over Archbishop Murphy in the quarterfinal matinee.

After the first round win the Monarchs had time for lunch, and they took their time soaking in the titillating action offered on the assorted fields at the around the clover-leaf layout facility. But it took them some time to get all the way back up to speed by the time the quarterfinals got started around supper time.

“It felt like, for a couple innings there we just weren’t in it,” Mark Morris head coach Chris Mejia said. “I mean, we were in it, but the vibe was weird.”

It wouldn't stay weird for long. Not for anyone in Columbia Blue and red, at least.
