CHEHALIS — The Monarchs entered postseason play with an unblemished record, and while they took some punches in the opening rounds of the 2A District IV softball tournament, they went home late Thursday night unscathed.
The Monarchs defeated Black Hills, 4-2, and then took out Aberdeen 3-2 in extra innings at Rec Park to clinch the program’s first State berth in three decades.
And across the promenade, Woodland was busy holding on for dear life in order to reach the final day of the tournament. The Beavers were shut out 9-0 in their opener against Aberdeen, but rallied for six runs in the seventh inning to defeat Black Hills 15-11 in a loser-out contest.
