NATT COURT – Nobody would have held it against the Woodland girls basketball team if it had simply been happy to make the state tournament. After all, it had been 11 years since the Beavers had made the big dance, and sometimes great expectations have a way of ruining an otherwise perfectly fine time.
The Beavers could have saved everyone a lot of time and money by simply bowing out in their first round matchup against Sultan, Saturday, at Mark Morris High School. Nobody would have said anything discouraging about that outcome. It would have been… fine.
But Woodland wasn’t interested in a one-and-done State appearance. The Beavers have bigger plans, and they include a long bus ride over the mountains and an extended stay at the Palm Springs of Washington next week. So, after a slow start in its tournament opener less than twenty miles north of their home hardwood at The Den, the Beavers got back to sharpening their teeth on the way to a 59-28 victory over the Turks on Natt Court.
