The Hilanders made sure to dance with the one they came with while still managing to spread the love around, Friday, in a 42-13 win over Heritage in front of a homecoming crowd at Ed Laulainen Stadium
Just one week after running back Aden Mintonye took more than 30 handoffs on his way to a seven touchdown game against Prairie, the Scots came out in Week 7 intent on spreading the workload around more. And that’s just what they did.
Kelso let seven different players run the pigskin against Heritage, with seven more players hauling in passes on the night. All told the Hilanders picked up 277 yards and 14 first downs while nearly holding the line defensively for a shutout.
But old habits are hard to break and Mintonye once again led the Kelso offense with a game-high 84 yards to go with a touchdown on just 12 carries. Blake Parsons added 47 yards of his own on a dozen carries. Both Mintonye and Jonas Conrad managed to run in touchdowns on the night and the Hilanders picked up 170 yards on the ground in total.
“We wanted to (spread the ball around) and obviously we were able to tonight,” Kelso coach Steve Amrine said. “I thought Blake ran really hard, and then you saw the little wrinkle with the full back, so that was pretty cool.”
