TACOMA — The newfangled Mat Classic format has been working out more or less as planned on the first day of action at the Tacoma Dome. Under the new format teams have been split up by classification so that the event will take place over three days rather than its regular 48-hour timeline.

The 3A and 4A schools got Mat Classic XXXVI started on Thursday, which means only Kelso wrestlers have had an opportunity to step out onto the big stage so far.
