PORTLAND — Like its previous 47 games this season, it was the long ball which helped the Lower Columbia College softball team to its final victory.
Round-trippers from NWAC Tournament MVP Lexi Grumbois and All-Tournament pick Hailey Brooks were key as the Red Devils stifled Everett 9-1 in the five-inning championshipe game of the Northwest Athletic Association Softball Championships on Sunday in the Owens Sports Complex at Portland's Delta Park.
LCC (48-0) is the first softball team in conference history to complete its season undefeated. The title was the 11th for the Red Devils, and the first for LCC coach Traci Fuller.
The Red Devils hadn't won the title since 2008.
"I had no idea at the beginning of the season we would be this good," LCC coach Traci Fuller said. "The girls all had a lot of respect for each other, and this team had what it needed to be successful."
