The Mark Morris boys golf team captured the 2A Greater St. Helens League title, Tuesday, by winning the league championship match at Heron Lakes Great Blue Course in Portland. The Monarchs finished on 305 as a team while Washougal placed second with a team tally of 305. Columbia River placed third after landing on 313 strokes for the day.
Mason Acker, a senior from Washougal, won the individual title with a round of 70. Mark Morris saw senior Broden Toney notch a silver finish with a round of 73.
The league title was determined by aggregate scoring that included regular season match results. That meant the Monarchs needed to beat Columbia River in the grand finale in order to overcome the Rapids for the 2A GSHL championship.
“The kids played extremely well considering the circumstances,” MM coach Kim Ulman said. “We came into the event two points behind them for the title. We earned five points for our first place finish and they earned one point for getting third. The kids knew all of this and were able to accomplish their goal of getting the league title.”
