MONARCH PARK — In a back-and-forth non-league battle that tested both teams late, the Mark Morris baseball team rallied for three runs over the final two innings and walked off Castle Rock 6-5 on Saturday at Mark Morris High School.
The Monarchs stayed within striking distance early before capitalizing on late opportunities, stringing together timely at-bats when it mattered most. In the end, MM was able to erase a two-run deficit and senior Zeppelin Edgell poked a walk-off single through the teeth of the defense to send the home team into a late spring break celebration.
“I feel like our guys just kept putting together good at-bats,” Mark Morris’ head coach Brock Myklebust said. “We weren’t chasing and stayed within ourselves.”
For the Rockets, the disappointing finish provided a teachable moment as they gear up for a playoff push in the 1A Trico League.
“That’s why we play games like this,” Castle Rock head coach Joe Bair said. “Moments like that are going to prepare us down the stretch.”
Bair, now in his third season in his second stint as skipper at Castle Rock was previously head coach at Mark Morris.
