Columbians exercise patience at the plate
The Rainier baseball team put together a strong week in league play, winning both of its league games to improve to 2-2 in Special District 1 action.
The Columbians opened the week Monday with a 5-4 win over Valley Catholic in a 12-inning thriller, then came back Friday to knock off Westside Christian, 6-4.
Rainier was also scheduled to play Yamhill-Carlton on Wednesday, but that game was rained out.
Head coach Cole Jackson said the Columbians took a noticeable step forward offensively.
“We had a big improvement on our approaches at the plate,” Jackson said. “We only had two walks the week before and 12 last week.”
