WOODLAND – The Woodland Beavers rode Michael Belvin’s right arm for 6 2/3 scoreless innings and an early bases-loaded escape to claim a 5-0 win over Mark Morris in a 2A Greater St. Helens League baseball game Thursday in South Cowlitz County.
Belvin came up just one out shy of a complete game effort, allowing three hits while striking out eight. He knuckled down to escape a bases-loaded jam in the first inning to set the tone early against the previously undefeated Monarchs.
“That was huge,” Belvin said. “Getting out of that without giving up a run calmed everybody down and really set the tone for the rest of the game.”
