This season has been full of fits and starts for the Kelso boys basketball team, but it appears momentum may have found the denizens of Big K-Court just in time. The Hilanders have now won three games in a row for the first time all season, including a wire-to-wire 67-45 over Shelton to open the 3A District IV Tournament at home in front of a high energy home crowd.
“Going back to last week and having a pair of 20-point victories and carrying that into a loser-out game, which is always nerve wracking because you’ve got to be at your best, and I thought our guys were really dialed in and ready to play,” said Kelso head coach Joe Kinch.
That contest was a loser-out affair in the new District format, which is essentially a replay of the 3A Greater St. Helens League schedule, plus the Highclimbers. That change represented a drastic change from the double elimination bi-District III/IV Tournament that had Kelso playing in a convoluted bracket far from home each time the playoffs rolled around.
“There’s no margin for error,” Kinch said.
