THE LUMBERDOME – The R.A. Long Lumberjacks have answered the bell at each and every turn so far this season, and that doesn’t seem likely to change any time soon.
Sitting at 16-0 with one game down in the second round of the 2A Greater St. Helens League slate, the No. 1 ranked Jacks certainly appear to have the inside track to locking down an undefeated league title.
Whether it was a win in double OT at Columbia River. Or a win on the road over Central 2B League leading Adna over winter break. Or a Civil War victory over Mark Morris where they cruised to the finish line without needing to shift up from third gear; the Lumberjacks have gotten the job done each and every time, and they’ve done it in a variety of ways.
Add in the fact that R.A. Long has played all season without the services of 6-foot 9-inch senior Rhet Young, last year’s 2A GSHL co-MVP, and the Jacks’ swashbuckling start to the season becomes all the more impressive.
Against Kelso last Friday, the Lumberjacks utilized their notoriously menacing defense to come out on top of the cross-river standoff by a score of 50-38.
