The Toledo boys basketball team has gotten used to being disrespected.
Last year’ 2B District IV champions entered this season with far less fanfare than schools located slightly to the north and west. Those other schools had high profile transfers from South Lewis County to boast about, and the pundits clamored to get in line to tell us all why those programs were the bell cows of the area.
But after one full trip around the sun, the Cheese Town hoopers got the last laugh when they repeated as District champions with a 60-55 overtime win over Napaine, Saturday, at W.F. West High School in Chehalis.
“It feels surreal. I mean, we had a good year obviously, but you just never know,” Toledo head coach Grady Fallon said. “We had several chances to lose it. We had several chances to win it. But we had a few rolls in the second half and managed to get the job done.”
The victory made Toledo the first repeat District IV champions since Kalama in 2021-22.
