2A Prep Boys Soccer/ Report

RIDGEFIELD — The R.A. Long boys soccer team spent all of last week on the road and kicking and clawing its way through the 2A District IV Tournament. And after posting a 1-0 win over Ridgefield, Saturday, in the third place match the Lumberjacks have officially earned themselves at least one more bus ride to remember.

“I’m really proud of the boys for this,” RAL head coach Max Anderson said. “One to two weeks ago, we’d lost three of (our) last four matches, and honestly — if anyone had said to me, ‘you guys aren’t going to make it past the first two matches at District’ — it would’ve been challenging to convince them otherwise.”

The Jacks clearly didn’t care what anyone thought. They weren’t ready to be finished on the pitch.

After entering the district tournament as the No. 4 seed out of the 2A Greater St. Helens League all it took for RAL to earn a ticket to keep on riding was to steal away with a trio of wins on enemy turf, overcome one gut-wrenching loss to a league foe, and fend off the grim-keeper on the dark side of the bracket. Now the Jacks have come out the other end with a bronze trophy for the case in the hallway and their third consecutive ticket to the 2A State Tournament to show for their considerable efforts.
