SOUTH COWLITZ COUNTY — Patience may be a virtue, but on the south end of The Blast Zone it’s clearly not considered part of the prerequisite skill set for a productive football player. With that in mind, teams on both ends of the 8-Mile War Zone wasted no time getting the 2026 prep football season started with practices starting with the stroke of midnight in booth Kalama and Woodland on Wednesday.

The official start of the WIAA sanctioned football season represented the start of a new chapter for both the Chinooks and the Beavers, and they’ll face off with the traditional 8-Mile War in Week 1.
