KALAMA — Neither the Rockets, the flu, nor clouds of condensation from erupting through the iron bars of face masks up in The Frigid Hill™ cold was enough to stop the Chinooks from extending their Blast Zone-best streak of postseason appearances out to a dozen seasons.
By the time zeroes showed on the scoreboard Kalama had put the finishing touches on a 33-0 shutout over Castle Rock to clinch the third seed out of the 1A Trico League.
A loss for the hosts on the eve of All Hallow’s Eve would have created a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots, with the Rockets right there in the mix.. But the ‘Nooks refused to let their guests make themselves at home in a dominant showing Thursday night.
“Castle Rock’s a very solid team. They’re well coached, they’ve got good players, they’re going to go hard to the whistle every time,” Kalama head coach Mike Phelps said. “I feel blessed and certainly very proud of how the boys played tonight.”
