THE STADIUM — A lot of things looked good on paper for Mark Morris football entering its 2A District IV pigtail game, Tuesday, at Longview Memorial Stadium.
The Monarchs liked their game plan. The Monarchs had confidence. The Monarchs had home field advantage. But once the sawed-off playoff contest got underway, the Monarchs didn’t have the answers for the problem otherwise known as the Aberdeen Bobcats. And with little time to sort things out, and even fewer opportunities to make up for mistakes, Mark Morris saw its season end in an 18-0 defeat on its shared home turf.
“I was really happy with our defense. Our coaches did a really good job scouting them,” Mark Morris head coach Mike Peck said. “Honestly, 95% of the plays we knew exactly what was coming, but that’s who they are. They’re going to let you know what’s coming and just dare you to stop it.”
The quirky postseason contest consisted of two 12-minute halves, with a regularly scheduled halftime that took up roughly one-third of the total time beneath the Tuesday night lights. And it’s not much of a stretch to say that nothing went quite right for the Monarchs.
