High School Football / Report

VANCOUVER — Mark Morris used a block field goal to spark a late surge on the way to its first win of the season, Friday, with a 27-15 decision over Hudson’s Bay at Kiggins Bowl.

The Monarchs held a brief lead in the first quarter, and again at halftime, but needed a strong finish to grab the 2A Greater St. Helens League victory.

“We got the monkey off our back,” Mark Morris head coach Mike Peck said.

Quarterback Aaron Ibarreta threw a touchdown and ran in two others to lead the Monarchs to victory. But it was that diving block by Avery Elliot on a field goal attempt by the Eagles in the third quarter that set Mark Morris up for its big finish.
