Mohammad scores 9 TDs in Columbians’ shootout win
You can stop rubbing your eyes now. The score in the headline is correct.
The Columbians were able to snap a two-game skid on their home field with an incredible 101-90 win over Corbett, Friday, in non-league football action. That offensive output is an all-time high for Rainier, and could very well be an all-time record in all of Oregon Country.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak at home for the Columbians. Rainier lost in overtime in Week 2, and then fell hard against Clatskanie in the Highway 30 Hootenanny. It was a turnaround that quarterback Gage Mohammad was intent on nailing down, even though he could have never imagined it looking like this, specifically.
“After the rivalry loss I just told my team, ‘I know this is a rival and I know we lost, but we need to feed on this and we need to go into next week and absolutely fight,” Mohammad said. “We needed to win this game for HoCo. It’s a big game. We just needed to get that out of our head.. We were fed up and decided to end this losing streak.”
Mohammad led the Columbians with nine touchdowns.
But it wasn’t all positive feedback after that victory.
