The precious prep football season is officially underway, and the powers that be at the combined media center of N2 and Blast Zone are back by controversial demand with your weekly power index.

Nick Sisson/N2: What a blessing it is to once again be prognosticating and narrating football games once again with you Jordan. Both of us were in attendance for the 49th meeting between Kelso and Mark Morris over at the revamped and renovated Longview Memorial Stadium last Friday, but there were several sets of eyes on the other games scattered across The Blast Zone as well (We’re looking at you Castle Rock/R.A. Long, Woodland/Kalama, and Toutle/Ilwaco!). And for coaches, players, officials, and media alike, Week 1 is always a feeling out process.

Sure, folks have some basic idea whether a team is good or not based on the preseason practices and meaningless jamborees (some say we should do away those altogether!) leading up to the first games of the season. And guesses can be ventured based on names returning to the roster from last season, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anyone knows who is actually good. Teams the pundits labeled as a good team have been known to fall flat in the opener, and teams picked to struggle all the way sometimes find early wins by upsetting a prohibitive favorite.

In the excitement of the new season, nearly any outcome can produce outrageous overreactions every true football fan can appreciate. And let me tell you, I’m here for all of them. Word around the crows nest is that N2 Media has a big school bias, so let’s confirm that bias and talk turkey in the 3A GSHL first.

Jordan Nailon / Blast Zone: Couldn’t have said it better myself, Nick. That’s why I let you do the talking. As my father told me growing up — “It’s better to keep your mouth shut and be considered a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

But what is prep football season without strong opinions based on scarce data? Let’s chop it up!
