CASTLE ROCK — Not all seasons end with playoff berths and exciting runs through the postseason in strange gymnasiums far from home. It’s the nature of sports.

But amid all the scoreboard watching and boxscore reading it can be easy to lose track of context, and perspective. On Wednesday night the Rockets and Chinooks provided subtext in spades while playing the final girls basketball game on their respective schedules.

There were no playoff stakes on the line. Not even a miracle and pigtail were within the realm of possibility. But there was, of course, pride at stake for a pair of programs that each endured a full season filled with adversity on the hardwood.

Plus, it was Senior Night at The Rock, so there was plenty of dust in the air by the end of the evening.

In the end, Castle Rock came out on top with a 46-44 win over Kalama in their 1A Trico League affair.

“Senior night is always bittersweet,” CR head coach Jordan Garbe said. “It’s the end of a chapter, but also a celebration of all that has led to this moment.

The season-ending win came with big news and a turning of the page on the Rockets bench postgame when head coach Jordan Garbe announced her decision to step down from the position in order to spend more time with her family. Garbe took over as head coach for Castle Rock at the beginning of the 2022-23 season.

“To end my coaching career with a win on senior night, with the girls that started my head coaching career, it was all I could ask for,” Garbe noted.
