3A Prep Girls Basketball / Report

The Kelso girls basketball team was unable to extend its season deeper into the 3A State Tournament bracket when it fell 54-21 in a pigtail round game at Gig Harbor on Tuesday.

The No. 20 ranked Lassies were underdogs going into the contest and wound up overwhelmed by the strong defensive pressure of the Tides.

And still, Kelso head coach Andrew Johnson, who was voted 3A Greater St. Helens League Coach of the Year by his peers, made sure to keep the final 32 minutes of an otherwise strong season in perspective.

“This season was about more than one game,” Johnson said.
