BIG K COURT – The Comets saw a bit of history made last weekend but couldn’t put the pieces to the puzzle to punch their ticket all the way to Spokane.
Naselle’s Brooklyn Avalon, the 1B Coastal League MVP, surpassed 1,000 career points in the first half of a Regional round contest against Pomeroy on Saturday at Kelso High School. And the No. 12 ranked Comets came back from a deficit at the intermission in order to force overtime before falling 56-53 to the No. 13 Pirates in a loser-out affair in the 1B Girls State Basketball Tournament.
While the defeat ended Naselle’s season one game shy of a trip to the Spokane Arena, most of the Comets have plenty to look forward to next season. However, watching her first 4-year group of seniors walk out of the locker room for the final time was not easy for head coach Marie Green.
“Our seniors are a special group,” Green said. “It’s hard to see who will fully replace them because they have set the bar high.”
