Fighting Fowl refuse to duck competition

The Toutle Lake girls basketball team has won seven games in a row to start the season, and they’ve been reeling off those victories in convincing fashion no matter the circumstances.
Bigger school? No problem. On the road? No problem. On the road again and again? No problem.
But the Ducks aren’t letting that hot start go to their heads. After all, they’ve been here before when just last year they parlayed an early season blitz into a No. 1 ranking in the RPI poll.
But the league slate hasn’t begun yet this winter. And last year’s campaign fell just short of a state tournament appearance in Spokane, which is the final destination this season’s Toutle Lake team has its sights set on.
“We’re just trying not to get too excited about it,” Toutle Lake head coach Daren Dean said. “This team is at that point where we want to play as good as competition as we can in non-leagues to get us ready for later.”
