KALAMA — The Castle Rock girls soccer team made its way south for 26 miles and then climbed the big hill to Chinook Stadium with an upset on its mind, Thursday. It didn’t matter that the Rockets had just one player on the bench, or that Kalama came away with wins in both meetings last year. At The Rock they follow the wisdom of Han Solo up against both an asteroid field and the intergalactic evil empire – “Never tell me the odds!”
As it turned out, the odds did not fall in the Rockets’ favor. Instead, Kalama won the 1A Trico League contest by a score of 5-0.
But the Rockets didn’t take it personally. They just took it as another challenge in a season full of evolving obstacles.
“Going into the game with one sub and knowing they are a good team, we had talked about shifting positions instead of getting subs when needed,” Castle Rock head coach Ashley Fulton noted. “We’re having to learn new positions, because this is our reality for the rest of the season.”
Sienna DiCristina and Ryleigh Cline each scored two goals for Kalama, with DiCristina adding an assist to the cause. Meanwhile, Mac Lamvik added a goal and an assist as the ‘Nooks presented a balanced attack.
