High School Girls Soccer

Escobar’s late scores carries Lassies over Tigers

The Kelso girls soccer team enjoyed an early lead against Centralia on Tuesday, but had to make a strong push down the stretch in order to secure a 2-1 non-league victory at Schroeder Field.

Alexis Escobar was the Lassie to put the hosts in the lead, posting the go-ahead goal in the 58th minute with a header off an assist from Kallie Carter.

Kelso enjoyed a 1-0 advantage at halftime thanks to a goal by Macy Buck in the 34th minute that was assisted by Karsyn Hall.

The Hilanders kept the pressure on with three straight chances — first doinking a shot off the football uprights, then bringing the ball back off a goal kick before Centralia’s back line cleared it in the box. On the ensuing corner, Kelso’s Alexis Escobar (10) soared for a header and buried the finish on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Schroeder Field. — Video by Skyler Smith for BZM
