Lutzenberger lifts Beavers over Monarchs in PKs
The Woodland girls soccer team will probably be getting a bill for electricity after going full time, extra time and then 15 rounds of penalty kicks with the Monarchs in a 2A Greater St. Helens League match, Thursday, at Beaver Stadium. In the end, it was Jilliana Lutzenberger who helped to shut off the lights with a golden goal to give the Beavers a 3-2 shootout victory.
Lutzenberger also scored a goal in regulation to help put the hosts in position to leg out the win.
On the other side of those heroics stood Mark Morris wondering what the heck, and why?
Several leagues around the area have gone away from overtime and shootouts entirely, opting instead for an easy draw, a short night, and convoluted standings. The Monarchs are now wondering if that option might be better.
“This was pretty awful,” Mark Morris head coach Shilah Nickerson said. “Fifteen penalty kicks; I’ve never heard of anything like that.”
