High School Girls Soccer

THE STADIUM – The last time the Monarchs defeated R.A. Long in a girls soccer match both sides were wearing masks. It was the spring of 2021, and everything was well beyond weird, including the result of a match that had originally been scheduled for the fall of 2020.

But a half decade later, Mark Morris took one big step toward manifesting itself a new norma. with a 3-0 win over the Lumberjills in a Civil War contest that doubled as a 2A Greater St. Helens League match, Thursday, at Longview Memorial Stadium.

“It feels great. It’s been a couple years since we beat them so it feels great to finally beat them,” Mark Morris junior Kamrie Guizzotti said. “And coming off a huge loss, it just feels amazing.”

Guizzotti finished the contest with a goal and an assist. And she referenced the Monarchs’ 7-0 loss at home to Columbia River on Tuesday because that resounding Civil War victory required both a short memory and a quick turnaround.
