CASTLE ROCK — The Toutle Lake softball team ventured downhill from its enclave in East Cowlitz County and made the most of the trip to town by sweeping the Rockets in a non-league doubleheader at Castle Rock High School. The Fighting Ducks took the Exit 49 Kerfuffle opener by a score of 15-3 and outlasted their hosts 19-14 in the marathon nightcap.
The victories improved the Ducks’ record to 6-1 on the season as they prepare for what promises to be a slugfest in the Central 2B League.
“Our bats is one of our most focal points when we’re at practice, and defensively our girls know how to get the outs,” Toutle Lake head coach Pat Casi said.

Meanwhile, the Rockets have seen some early season momentum impeded by an outbreak of injuries. Castle Rock managed to get its bats warmed up before the long day at the ballpark was over, but the hosts couldn’t put all the pieces together in time to pick up a victory over their next-town neighbors.
“We hit the ball exceptionally well, we just made a lot of errors. That was our problem,” CR head coach Ron Strode said.
