High School Volleyball / Report

CASTLE ROCK — The Kalama Chinooks have been chewing up the competition so far this season, and that was no different Thursday night when they took down the Rockets in four sets of 1A Trico League Volleyball action on LeBaron Court.

But that doesn’t mean The Rock didn’t put up a fight. Heck, Castle Rock was even in the match with one set win in the bag before winding up exhausted on the wrong end of an extended extra points battle in the third frame. From there, the ‘Nooks rolled to the victory with final set scores of 25-11, 21-25, 29-27 and 25-10.

“Boy can we play some good volleyball,” Castle Rock head coach Katie Munoz said. “But when we lose, we lose.”

Meanwhile, Kalama head coach Rebecca Clark was quick to give credit to her seniors for helping to pull away for the league win on the road. The ‘Nooks have lost just one match so far this season, so it’s been a common theme.

“All in all, all my seniors contributed tonight in so many ways,” Clark said. “It was a good game for all of them.”

And the stats seem to show the math for Clark’s assessment.

— In a jaw-dropping 47-second rally, Castle Rock and Kalama battled with relentless heart during the third set Thursday at LeBaron Court in Castle Rock. The Rockets, trailing by three, clawed for momentum as both sides delivered diving saves, thunderous swings, and sheer determination. Kalama refused to fold, but Castle Rock finally punched through, winning the point to ignite the crowd and swing the momentum their way. Despite the heroic rally, the ‘Nooks edged out the Rockets in the set, 29-27, in a thrilling back-and-forth battle. / Video by Skyler Smith for Blast Zone Media —
