BIG—K COURT — The Kelso volleyball team wasn’t feeling particularly generous on Wednesday when Mountain View came to town for a 3A Greater St. Helens League match. It’s not that the Lassies were mean, but they weren’t interested in giving anything away for free in a quick sweep over the Thunder.
Kelso picked up its first league victory in its second try by scores of 25-11 , 25-14 and 25-8.
“(We) were sharp from the start, combining strong serves and powerful net play helped us secure the win,” Kelso head coach Michelle Mury said. “(Our) balanced attack and relentless defense proved too much for Mountain View.”
It was a reassuring turnaround following a three-set loss at Prairie in Kelso’s league opener on Monday. And a strong effort at the service stripe kept the Lassies trending the right direction all night, with precious few errors and 16 aces as a team.

The Hilanders kept the Thunder on their heels with sharp passing and relentless pressure before captain Royal Grafton (3) closed out the third set, and the match, with a commanding ace. / Video by Skyler Smith for Blast Zone Media —
