Tigers break out brooms in District title rematch

Clatskanie got the last laugh in their annual tit-for-tat with Portland Christian with a sweep in the District championship game on Saturday at Vernonia High School.

The contest was a rematch of last year’s District title tilt, which the Tigers came out on the wrong end of. And just like last season, the teams split their league contests. Clatsaknie won the first round in five sets, but wound up losing in three sets in the regular season finale.

But with the District trophy on the line, the Tigers won three straight sets, with scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21.

The victory secured a home match for the Tigers in the first round of the 2A State Tournament, and brought bragging rights back to Columbia County. At least for now.

Rankings and matchups for the state tournament are set to freeze Tuesday night.
