Grafton, Lassies let it rip to top Titans

The Kelso volleyball team got the best of Union in a non-league 3A/4A GSHL tilt, Tuesday, in Camas. With Royal Grafton landing a team-high 16 kills, the Lassies defeated the Titans by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 23-25, and 25-18.

It was another promising result for a relatively inexperienced bunch of Lassies who have been busy doing their preseason trials by fire this fall.

“Probably half of our kids are new to varsity and only a small amount of seniors that are in the lineup,” Kelso head coach Michelle Mury said. “We really loaded our preseason with 4A top teams. Basically, it was like, ‘Let’s hit our hardest competition now.’ Because our league can be a little up and down.”

The brave scheduling had Kelso behind the 8-ball for the first few weeks of the season, but the K-Town spikers are quickly proving what they’re made of.

“This year I probably overdid that a little bit so our record doesn’t reflect what our talent level is,” Mury added.
