High School Volleyball / Report

WOODLAND — A wise volleyball probably coach once said, it’s not how you start but how you finish that truly matters. And the Beavers proved the wisdom of that age old adage, Thursday, on their home court when they dropped the opening set of a 2A Greater St. Helens League match with R.A. Long, only to race back for a four set win.

The victory was their second in league play for the Beavers this season, but also just their second overall.

”We play like that in practice all the time, so the season’s bee kind of frustrating because we haven’t put it together in a match yet,” Woodland head coach Kendall Rohrer said. “This was one that we really wanted. We lost to R.A. Long twice last year so this was definitely one we wanted to get.”

Jenna Starr led that ferocious comeback with a match-high 29 kills, while committing just four swing errors. She also contributed six digs for the Beavers, and generally made nuisance of herself in the eyes of the Lumberjills.

Curiously, that big performance started with a focus on all the small things.
