Lassies take team title in mountain country
The Kelso girls wrestling team brought home a team championship from the Northern Colorado Christmas Tournament over the weekend, besting 54 other teams along the way.
“Our girls had an outstanding weekend at the Northern Colorado Christmas Tournament,” Kelso head coach Bobby Freud said.
That competition included schools from Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Among the mix were Pueblo Central, the defending State champions from Colorado, and Cleveland, the defending State champs from New Mexico.
Kelso won the team title with 211 points. Next in line were Thornton, CO (181.5), Chatfield, CO (175.5), Pueblo (166.5), and Cleveland (163.5).
Cleveland will take part in The Braided 64 in Kelso later this season.
Kelso managed to win the Golden Christmas Wreath without an individual champion.
“Great job to all 15 girls who competed for two straight days,” Freund said. “Several athletes were one match away from placing, battling hard in the blood round.”
