Naselle's Isabella Colombo has found success as the record-setting setter for the College of the Siskiyous volleyball team in Weed, California.
Colombo, a sophomore with the Eagles, set the single-season school record for assists with 624 as a freshman, only to better the mark with 635 as a sophomore to earn All-Golden Valley Conference First-Team accolades.
On the school's website, interim head coach Jess Petricevic said Bella is one of the team's stronger leaders and "influences the team to do its best and be better every day."
Among GVC setters, Colombo is ranked third in assists, ninth in ace serves with 47, and 10th in digs with 267. In a 3-1 loss to Shasta College, she had 28 assists, 12 digs and three aces, and dished 18 assists in a 3-0 loss to College of the Redwoods. Colombo is studying Natural Sciences, and after graduation plans to move back to Naselle and attend Western Governor's University online while working.
Kelso's Natalie Bair continues to post solid numbers for Ventura College into the postseason. In her final regular-season matchups, Bair, a freshman setter, had 33 assists in a five-set win over Allan Hancock. She also dished 15 assists in a 3-0 sweep of Pierce College of Los Angeles, and had 11 assists in Ventura's 3-0 sweep of Glendale in a Western State Conference Crossover match. She added 17 assists and 14 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Mount San Jacinto in the opening round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs.
Former Lower Columbia College player Kambree Baker, a sophomore middle blocker at Columbia Basin College, was named to the Northwest Athletic Conference All-East Region Third Team. She tallied 134 kills on the season, including 12 in a 3-2 victory over Bellevue in an NWAC Regional contest.
Lyndzie Filla, a freshman defender from Toledo attending Centralia College, was solid in a pair of NWAC Regional matchups. She tallied 16 digs and served four aces in a 3-1 loss to Edmonds, and had 18 digs and two assists in a 3-2 loss to Wenatchee Valley.
Toutle's Grace Hadaller, a freshman outside hitter at Yakima Valley College, had four kills, two digs and two block assists in a 3-0 sweep of Highline in a NWAC Elite Eight match.
Woodland's Sydney George had five kills and 16 digs for Clark College in a 3-1 setback to Mount Hood College.
Kalli Budge had eight kills and four block assists for Northwest University in a 3-1 win over Oregon Tech. Budge is a junior middle blocker from Rainier.
Harvey piles up the awards
Former Mark Morris and Lower Columbia College standout Ashton Harvey has only played six games for the Bushnell College men's basketball team this season, and he has already claimed two Cascade Collegiate Conference awards. A redshirt junior forward, Harvey helped Bushnell to a 124-42 win over Portland Bible College by holding the Arrows to 18 points in the paint. At the other end of the floor, Harvey blocked three shots, made two steals and grabbed four defensive rebounds.
Harvey is the first Beacon to earn the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Earlier in the season, he was tabbed the CCC Offensive Player of the Week.
A pair of grads from Kalama and Woodland are getting it done at Clark College in Vancouver. In a 95-77 triumph over Blue Mountain College of Pendleton, Jackson Esary, a sophomore guard from Kalama, had 28 points, three rebounds and two assists. Beau Swett, a sophomore guard from Kalama, added 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Esary had 22 points, three rebounds and two assists in a 90-61 slapping of the University of Oregon Club Team, and had added 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 102-71 triumph over the Pacific University JV team. Also against Pacific, Swett came off the bench to chip-in 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Esary also had 17 points and five rebounds in a 77-55 win over Centralia.
Cavin Holden, an R.A. Long grad at Central Washington University, continues to put up consistent outings as a sophomore guard with the Wildcats.
Holden had 15 points, eight assists. four rebounds and three steals in an 88-65 win over Walla Walla University, had 12 points, five assists and three rebounds in a 76-59 loss to Cal State-San Bernardino, and collected 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in a 72-58 setback to Cal State-Monterey Bay.
In a recent trip to Nampa, Idaho, Holden had 10 points, four rebounds and six assists in an 85-63 win over Jessup University of California, and had 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 74-72 squeaker over Westmont College of California.
Kobe Parlin, who graduated from Mark Morris and is an LCC transfer at Central, had 10 points, two rebounds and two steals in the victory over Walla Walla.
Dakota Reber, an LCC alum who is now a junior forward at Oregon Tech,
collected three recent double-digit scoring performances. In the Lithia Oregon Tech Classic, Reber had 15 points and three rebounds in a 107-75 win over Linfield, and had 12 points and three rebounds in a 97-83 loss to Arizona Christian University. Reber also tallied 12 points in a 99-80 victory over California Maritime University.
Another LCC grad, Carter McCoy, a junior guard at Rocky Mountain College, had a pair of strong outings. He had 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in an 88-78 win over Benedictine University of Mesa, Arizona, and collected 14 points, two rebounds and two assists in a 113-56 drubbing of Northwest Indian College of Bellingham.
Braydon Olson, a freshman guard at Western Oregon University, had 10 points and two rebounds in a 90-83 win over Academy of Art. Olson is a Mark Morris graduate.
Lomax gets it done
R.A. Long grad Miranda Lomax, a junior guard at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, notched three double-digit scoring outings during a recent trip to Hawaii.
In an 81-61 triumph over Chaminade University, Lomax had 11 points, two rebounds and two steals, and backed it with a 14 point, four assist and two rebound outing against Chaminade two days later. She wrapped-up the trip with 10 points and two rebounds in a 75-65 loss to Hawaii Pacific.
Clatskanie's Shelby Blodgett, a junior forward at Central Washington University, amassed 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Wildcats in a 92-57 pounding of Cal State-East Bay.
Ilwaco's Erika Glenn, a junior guard at Hawaii Pacific University, netted eight points and dished four assists in a 68-51 victory over the University of Hawaii-Hilo.
Ex-LCC guard Katelynn Forner, now a senior at Montana State University-Northern, had 10 points, two rebounds and two steals in a 76-58 triumph over Dickinson State University of South Dakota.
Another former LCC player, Kayla Kasubuchi, now a sophomore guard at the College of Southern Idaho, had three recent solid outings for the Golden Eagles. In the Northwest Florida Tournament held in Niceville, Florida, Kasubuchi had seven points, three assists and two rebounds in a 60-56 win over Pensacola State College, and notched seven points and two rebounds in a 56-42 loss to Northwest Florida State College. In a 103-45 pounding of the Carroll College JV, she grabbed two rebounds and dished 12 assists.
Stacie Spahr, a senior forward/center and Toledo grad at Pacific Lutheran University, had six points and 18 rebounds in a 60-46 win over The Evergreen State College. She also pulled nine rebounds and had two assists in PLU's 62-40 loss to Texas Lutheran University.
Naselle's Hollie Haataia-McKee, a sophomore forward at Pierce College, pulled six rebounds in an 82-53 loss to Blue Mountain College.
R.A. Long alum Scott Pisapia is back for his seventh season on Palatine Hill as an assistant women's basketball coach at Lewis and Clark College in Portland.
Flanagan shines in defeat
Woodland's Tyler Flanagan, a junior running back with the Central Washington University football team, rushed 18 times for 84 yards and a touchdown in the Wildcats' 28-21 loss to Western Colorado in an NCAA Division-II payoff game held in Gunnison, Colorado. Flanagan scored on a 2-yard dive in the fourth quarter.
Deacon Dietz, a sophomore at Whitworth University, tallied a solo tackle and a tackle assist in a 21-13 victory over Pomona-Pitzer of California in an NCAA Division-III Playoff matchup. Dietz is a Mark Morris grad.
Stewart leads the 'Zags
Kelso's Jake Stewart. the women's cross country coach at Gonzaga University, helped the Bulldogs to a 25th place finish at the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in Verona, Wisconsin.
Gonzaga tallied 574 points. Brigham Young University won the women's title with 147 points.
