As a freshman at Mount Hood, Hughes was named the Northwest Athletic Association South Region Player of the Year after hitting a league-leading 21 home runs and driving in 60 runs. She was also named an NFCA NWAACC All-American, and placed on the All-NWAACC South Region First Team and All-NWAACC Tournament Team while leading the Saints to a 39-7 record.
As a sophomore in 2014, Hughes was named the Southern Region Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row while leading the Saints to a 39-3 record and the team’s fourth conference title. She hit .481 with 14 home runs and 63 RBI.
Hughes also played two seasons at Boise State University. As a junior, she started in 47 of 50 games and hit .263 with four home rund, nine doubles and 17 RBI. She blossomed as a senior, leading the team in hitting (.386), hits (56), doubles (12), RBI (47), and slugging percentage (.710), while finishing second in home runs (11) and runs scored (30) to earn All-Mountain West Conference F/irst-Teram accolades.
After graduation, Hughes served as an assistant softball coach at Portland State University, and is the current head softball coach at Clatskanie High School.
Hughes, along with the 2014 Saints’ championship squad, will be inducted as part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 at the Induction Dinner and Awards Ceremony on June 4 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel in Portland.
