Carter Gaston of Kelso, a senior pitcher at the University of Portland, picked up his team-leading fourth victory in an 8-3 triumph over Northwestern. Gaston pitched seven innings, allowing a run on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
The seven inning outing by Gaston was the most by a Pilots’ pitcher this season.
On the season, Gaston has yet to allow more than one earned run in an outing this season.
It been a series of successful outings for Kalama’s Tommy Brandenburg, a senior pitcher with the University of Washington baseball team.
In an 11-2 victory over Pepperdine, Brandenburg picked up the victory after allowing no runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk through five innings. In a 10-9 loss to Northwestern, Brandenburg allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts through three innings.
On the season, Brandenburg is 1-0 with a 2.95 earned run average and is tied for the team lead with two saves.
Through 21 innings, Brandenburg has allowed 17 hits, struck out 18 batters and walked eight.
