Chapin flexes for Vikings at Vernaccia Invite
R.A. Long grad Kathryn Chapin wrote her name into the women's record book for Western Washington University track after her recent performance at the Ralph Vernaccia Invitational held in Bellingham.

Chapin, a freshman with the Vikings, heaved the hammer 172-feet-11 to finish second in the event, the second-longest throw by a Western athlete in school history. She also placed 15th in the discus with a toss of 89-3.
In the men's portion of the Vernaccia Invite, another RAL grad, Hewie Nguyen, a junior at Western, placed second in the triple jump at 42-11 1/2.
In the Pee Wee Halsell Invitational also held in Bellingham, Chapin finished second in the shot put (45-1 3/4), fifth in the hammer (155-3), and 15th in the discus (91-8). Kalama's Alena Ross, a sophomore at Central Washington University, was sixth in the pole vault at 9-8.
