The Lower Columbia College women’s basketball team won eight consecutive games in order to win the West region outright for the second season in a row.
The Red Devils defeated Highline 75-54 on the road last Saturday in order to put the final touches on their run to the end of the regular season. Lower Columbia finished one game ahead of Green River in the standings, with the head-to-head advantage on their side as well.
It was an impressive surge for a team that held a record of just 6-8 at the end of the 2024 portion of their schedule.
“It was about figuring out what our identity was, and it was about me figuring out the right rotation,” LCC coach Lucas Myers said.
Karlee VonMoos was in right in the middle of everything the Red Devils have done this season, and that was no different at Highline when she posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Earlier this season VonMoos became the all-time leading rebounder for the Red Devils and she adds double digits to her career tally every time she steps on the floor.
“Just another average double-double night. She makes it look pretty basic,” Myers said. “Everybody else would beg for those numbers.”
And when you realize that Myers said that way back on Feb. 5 in a win at Centralia, it helps to put into perspective just how consistent VonMoos has been in the middle.
